About Hiraki izakaya & handrolls

Hiraki (้–‹ใ) in Japanese means โ€œto openโ€ โ€” to open flavors, to open conversation, to open the spirit.

At Hiraki Izakaya & Handrolls, we open the door to a dining experience where tradition meets warmth. From freshly rolled sushi to grilled skewers and comforting small plates, every dish is crafted to awaken the senses and bring people together.

This is not just sushi. This is not just an izakaya.

It is an invitation โ€” to slow down, to share, to savor food as it is prepared and served with intention, care, and quiet mastery.

Located at 121 Curtner Ave #20, San Jose, CA 95125, Hiraki izakaya & handrolls operates as a japanese serving San Jose in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as japanese restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Jose, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 amโ€“2 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Hiraki izakaya & handrolls at (669) 669-4312; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is hirakinori.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 25 reviews, which is a strong result for a japanese in San Jose and suggests consistent service.

San Jose is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in San Jose peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Itโ€™s fascinating to have a nice gourmet experience at pretty good prices. Itโ€™s a chill spot thatโ€™s clean and organized, with well presented food thatโ€™s fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the hand rolls that you place into provided nori seaweed, eating it much like a taco of sorts. Flavors are fresh and clean, which is always great. The place is rather new as of writing this review and deserves a shot.

Hiraki (้–‹ใ) literally means "to open," and as someone who spends my days scouting for high-agency builders and "under-the-radar" talent, Iโ€™m always looking for spaces that actually understand that philosophy. Most spots just optimize for turnover; Hiraki originates an experience. Hereโ€™s the breakdown: The Architecture The "mini-kaiseki" flow in an izakaya setting is a masterclass in intentionality. You aren't just eating; youโ€™re watching a sequence of events play out. The A5 Wagyu Handroll isn't just a dishโ€”it's high-level execution. The texture of the nori (it actually stays crisp) and the temperature of the rice tell me the chefs here value the "Compute is Time" principle. They don't waste a second. The Standouts Smoked Otoro: This is the one. Itโ€™s complex, smoky, and hits that "unrealistic" level of flavor that you usually only find in private, high-end spots. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice: A classic, but done with a level of craftsmanship that makes most other versions look like theyโ€™re just iterating on a tired idea. The Vibe The handroll bar is where the action is. Itโ€™s like the "kitchen" in a game of pickleballโ€”itโ€™s tactile, immediate, and built for connection. Whether you're here

New Japanese place in the plant. Has a good selection of dishes and hand rolls. Very affordable prices and big portions. Food was delicious. They were out of a few options but we got the ribs and chicken katsu curry. Would come back
